Alphas cancelled

UPDATE: Here is the official statement from Syfy:

Syfy’s drama Alphas is ending its run after two seasons. “Syfy has decided not to renew Alphas for a third season,” the network said in a statement. “We’ve been proud to present this entertaining, high-quality series for two seasons and to work with an incredible ensemble of talented actors, producers and creatives as well as our partners at BermanBraun Television. We’d like to thank the show’s dedicated regular viewers for their tremendous support.” Alphas, from BermanBraun, Universal Cable Prods and creators Zak Penn and Michael Karnow, followed a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills. The series starring David Strathairn was most recently run by Bruce Miller who executive produced Season 2 alongside Penn and BermanBraun’s Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein. Karnow served as co-executive producer. The second season of Alphas launched in July to 1.7 million viewers... -- Deadline

  1. Sad and all but I can't say I'm surprised to see this happen. Ryan was right all along. If they took this long to "decide" then it was doomed. It was a great show while it lasted. I suppose it would be naive of me to wish for a new channel pickup or a movie series of this. Hope Defiance has fun while it can, because with the way things seem to be now, I guarantee it'll meet the same fate. Great, now Summer Glau fans are going to keep hearing about "the Summer curse" once again.

  4. Well-written, well-acted compelling character-driven stories that challenged tv conventions and explored darker themes while maintaining natural levity -- of course Alphas was cancelled. :( It's a damn shame. I doubt I'll be bothering with anything else on Syfy now. Alphas should have been on HBO. I'll pick up the DVD when it's out. All the best to the cast and crew -- you guys should be proud of what you created. Plenty of us are grateful for what you gave us. Thank you.

  8. I get the fact that particular shows become no longer profitable for the network's that produce them. However, in the least Syfy should produce a made for tv-movie that provides a conclusion to the series. Networks are nothing without their viewers. Providing an ending to a story provides closure to, and engenders a fierce loyalty from the fan base. Its unconscionable that networks keep leaving their viewers hanging over and over again. I've followed Syfy since it went online, but it seems the network is going the way of FOX.

  9. SyFy about horror than Science Fiction. They have become reality tv happy and it is going down the drain.
You take good shows with good writing and acting and don't give them a chance to develop. Same thing happened with Stargate Universe and I am sure they will do the same with Warehouse soon enough.

Don't become Fox, don't follow their path. You are supposed to be alternative to mediocre network programming, stay relevant.

  11. Attn: Alphas fans
This is a call to arms. Let us storm the network to bring the show back. I think if we make contact with the right places, we could make a difference. I think that if we start sending emails to NBC and SYFY we could effectively bring back Alphas. So maybe if everybody would send something like below we could appeal to their sensibilities.
    Thank you everyone,
    VictorE

Please bring back Alphas and do it on the parent station of NBC. By putting it on NBC, you will expose it to a larger audience and I guarantee you that it will be such a big hit that it will run and make more money than any other show on your networks/stations/divisions today, if not more than any other show on television today. I have never come across anybody who ever watched Alphas who did not like it. This show could have a larger and more dedicated fan base than many series from the past present and future. This show could have the viewership of such shows as LOST, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Seinfeld, Cheers, and M*A*S*H. If they would just give it a proper, place and chance.
